Y’all. Where do I even start with this wedding. Perhaps I’ll start by saying that we shot these in 2015. Despite all of my good intentions to blog it fast, I am only now (in 2017) able to take the time I feel is best to review and post what was honestly an incredible day for us as professionals and as people.
Jasmine and Ty’s wedding fell at the end of a very chaotic window for us. We had some 12 weddings in a row (ending with their’s) and soon after was our own. We were focused so much on our work that planning our wedding fell by the wayside. We left a lot (too much?) to be determined until the gap of time between this wedding and our own. That kind of crunching can make anyone crazy (including and especially your’s truly). Documenting their day however left us inspired, affirmed, and excited.
Jasmine and Ty are a creative, talented, ambitious, and driven couple. Passionate about music, art, and quality time with their eclectic group of family and friends, they opted for an intimate wedding set in downtown Nashville. They wanted a day that reflected their values and style as a couple. Instead of a sit down meal, they served delicious, decadent appetizers and brought homemade desserts. Instead of a wildly detailed schedule, they set a couple firm times and decided to just let the party unfold as it naturally would. Instead of a bunch of detail shots, they asked that we really focus on capturing the genuine interactions. Small guest list. Small bridal party. A short and heartfelt ceremony read by a friend.
Days leading up to the wedding, I called Jasmine to confirm some of the plans for the day. In more cases than one, she admitted that she was just “gonna cut that.” I could tell she got a lot of relief from just deciding to not decide on something. Will there a grand entrance or father-daughter dance? Maybe? But it didn’t need to be planned. It was up to us as documentarians to observe, be ready, and appreciate the unexpected. And guess what? They got their grand entrance. There was a super fun and casual dance with dad. It all happened naturally.
It was in that headspace that I think we felt most creative and eager. It was in that fluidity that I saw them have an actual good time. Their hands and hearts were freed up to really engage with the people who were there. We saw them have a quality moment with everyone who attended. They were able to stay late and dance as the event crew took away the tables and chairs. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other and celebrated like they knew there would be many more nights like these. Importantly to us, they embraces us as if we were among the unique company that made up their guest list. They let us do our thing and greeted us with warmth at every turn. At the end of the night, Jasmine shared the advice we very much needed: “simplify, simplify, simplify.” Then she gave me a giant box of wine and sent us on our way.
It was from that experience that we went into our wedding even more confidently. We cut a ton of projects. Deleted the pinterest. We committed to valuing the experience, which goes by so fast, not through throwing more money at it— but by emphasizing the quality time with the people we love.
Jasmine and Ty are now living in beautiful Colorado chasing their creative passions together. I have the delight of turning these images into a wedding book soon. I thought it was time to finally share with you all what a spectacularly sweet and joyful circle of love these two belong to.
Absolutely Lovely!
