A whole lot of heart coming your way, friends! We had the great luck of being connected with these two after I had shot her sister (Colby’s) engagement photos. Laken and Marc were planning a fun, intimate, and casual wedding in January (our off-season). After meeting them over Skype and laughing our butts off we had our hands high in the air! We really wanted them to pick us! They were raising a daughter together and were chatting us from their newly bought home. They were clearly very happy and committed to each other. We also LOVED the idea behind their wedding: rent a lake house that can sleep 30 of very most important people and get married there.
You see, we are big fans of intimate weddings that pack a lot of heart. This wedding really expanded our schema for what a wedding can look like. They were able to move in and have quality time with close family and friends. They brought minimal decor, some adorable outfits, food, drink, and a marriage license. The “venue” came equipped with a pool table, a long dining table, many beds, several games, and more. They set their own pace and made a weekend of it.
We were so charmed in fact, that we actually copied it slightly ;]
More than that however, we felt SO WELCOME. We took a million candids and really loved the energy of their wedding. Everyone had a great time without all of the fuss. Their hearts were undoutedly in the right place. They didn’t sweat the details or take themselves too seriously. It was clear as day that this was a celebration of love and happiness.
Laken looked BEAUTIFUL in her gold cocktail dress and Marc was a stunner in his blue suit. My favorite person was probably their daughter as she was straight up HILARIOUS (and incredibly bright). They were married by a friend. I cried. Ganer cried. Everyone in that house cried. We fell in love with their family and feel really lucky to have booked both Laken and Colby. The family they come from is really something special. They have inspired us in so. many. ways.
Other notes: Marc brewed his own beer and Colby (MoH) designed the labels! We adored the locket Marc gave their daughter (“love you to the moon and back” engraved on the outside, photo of them on the inside). We loved that the night ended in pajamas. We think it’s sweet that they saw each other plenty even before the emotional first look and walked each other down the aisle <3
