Special post, folks! Susan and Spencer are dear to my heart because 1) they are some of our very best friends and 2) they were one of the first couples I ever photographed. I was in grad school and still getting on my feet as a professional photographer. On my way to meet Susan for a senior grad session and I suggested that Spencer should tag along. We ended up getting the sweetest frames and I think might have posed them more as a couple than I did her for her senior photos :p (sorry, Sus!). It was too easy. They are so naturally *good* together.
Our friend group had been rooting for this engagement for a while. You see, these two are like the debate royalty (they’ll never tell you that, so I’ll brag on them). They are both National Champions in Lincoln-Douglas debate and have both stuck with the forensics program to get their Master’s and coach the team. Over the summer Spencer picked up extra work at Baskin Robin’s to save up for what is honestly the prettiest engaged ring I’ve ever photographed (besides my own, that will always be my favorite). Spencer set up a fake debate with a fellow coach and friend under the guise of satisfying a bet he had with the students. Susan, now busy with her own career, stopped by the meeting to support Spencer and visit with the kids. Little did she know that he would break away from his case to get down on one knee. It was the sweetest night and we celebrated until they were deliriously tired and happy.
I personally get a lot of joy from working with Susan and Spencer because they might just be my biggest cheerleaders. No wait, maybe her mom is my all-time biggest cheerleader. I get spoiled with love from many of my clients but they are always the first to “like” and praise my work (online and in person). It always gives me a big boost of confidence and makes me want to be more gracious to others. On my last visit to their house they were surrounded by prints, frames, and canvases from their engagement session. It’s a special feeling to hold my work and see just how beautifully our lab reproduces the images. It’s even more special to see that their walls have been covered in photos taken by me all the way back to when I was “Carrie G. Photography” and they were one of the only couples sessions on my site.
Here’s to celebrating the friends that are always the first to cheer you on. The ones that give warmth and love generously. Those who work hard and deserve the spotlight to be shined on them.
We love you, Suspence! We are excited to spoil you with images this year <3
