Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs✍

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

Lifestyle portraiture. We love candid, natural interactions, and capturing the personality of the people we work with. Our direction is light and poses are never stuffy. Our photos are modern with a touch of whimsy and nostalgia.

WHERE ARE YOU BASED OUT OF?

Bowling Green KY near Nashville but travel all over the country, from coast to coast, and internationally. Here’s some places on our wishlist: any place international (especially Mexico and the Caribbean), Virgina, Knoxville, Colorado, NY, Austin, New Orleans, New York, and California!

WHAT IS YOUR NAME ALL ABOUT?

We used to work under the name “Carrie G. Photography” but it was time for a new name and new look. We love the phrase “over the moon.” Just think about it… “We’re over the moon with each other”, “I’m over the moon with my photos”… romantic right? We also love the french language as Ganer’s family is from south Louisiana. So there you have it.

ARE YOU LGBT FRIENDLY?

Absolutely. We are excited and eager to work with all couples and families. We are passionate about our services being both inclusive, progressive, and diverse.

WHAT IS AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION?

An opportunity to get together with Carrie before the wedding to relax and show off your personality as a couple. Treat it like a date. It’s fun and the “mini” 40 minute version is complimentary (if booked in BG) for most of our wedding services.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BOOK?

Signed wedding contract, low-pressure meeting, + %20 deposit up front!

WHAT DO WE GET?

Access to high-resolution photos + print release.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET MY PHOTOS?

We will try our best to get you some previews after we’ve rested. Full galleries are delivered between 6-10 weeks depending on the time of year. Smaller portrait sessions take 2-3 weeks for delivery.

WILL I GET EVERY SINGLE SHOT YOU TOOK? CAN I HAVE THE RAWS?

No and no. It’s really a matter of artistic integrity. We do promise this though: you will get every great shot that isn’t a duplicate of another shot. Ask to see some galleries to get a better idea of what’s delivered.

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL WE GET?

We over proud over-documentarians. We do this so that you can relieve the experience of an afternoon or a wedding day, rather than having a handful to frame. That being said we average a minimum of 50 for a portrait session and ~800-1,000 for a wedding day.

WILL YOU PHOTOSHOP ME TO LOOK SKINNIER, YOUNGER, OR HAVE MORE HAIR?

Sorry, heavy photoshop is not our style. We love you for you. We will do our best with light, composition, and posing to get a great look for you. Any small retouching is done at our discretion.

CAN I POST MY PHOTOS ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Heck yes! We want you to show it off and giving us credit (in the description, tags, etc) helps us grow! You can find us on instagram @surlalunephotography and we love the tags #surlalunephotography #SLL :]

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Yes! As all professionals should. If a venue requires to be listed, please arrange for this far in advance.

WHAT DO YOU SHOOT WITH?

Full frame canon cameras and lenses. Specialize in natural/ambient light and use flashes when appropriate!

HAVE YOU BEEN FEATURED?

We have been lucky to have our images featured on a variety of wedding publications, namely: Kentucky Bride, Catalyst Wedding Co., and the Knot Best of Weddings. Check our PRESS section for more info.

DO YOU  HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR COUPLES LOOKING FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER?

There’s lots of advice out there. Here are just a few pieces of our own:

Book who you WANT not just who you can afford. Do your research and recognize the stylistic differences in the portfolios photographers show you. Which ones move you? Which ones do you see yourselves, your wedding, and your celebration in? This is not to say you should book someone who has shot a wedding you want to replicate. Rather, someone who has a sense of style and vibe that you really dig. One photographer’s process could be very different from the next. Make sure its an a amazing fit for you.

Set up a meeting with them in person or at the very least in a video chat. The best photographers aim to build a relationship and vision with you.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR COUPLES IN GENERAL?

If you’re getting married, don’t lose sight of why. The wedding industry in many ways will try to convince you to buy things and do things a certain way because it’s a massive business. We are firm believers in doing it YOUR way. Base your decisions off of what inspires you and feels right. Whether it’s a big event, intimate ceremony, or elopement– embrace the day as a celebration. Seriously, ENJOY IT :] If you decide to hire us or someone else, we sincerely hope you can take this advice with you.
